We all have that one friend who is always trying to lose weight by starving today, and tomorrow, is right back to a balanced junk diet. We might have even found ourselves in this situation also. The good news is that you do not have to starve to lose weight. When you starve, there is a high possibility of crash dieting and running right back into the arms of junk. Here are some tips to tell you how to lose weight without starving yourself.

Portion Control: Like the name implies, this means eating reduced portions of meals. Although underestimated, portion control is actually very effective for weight loss. Instead of starving, you can actually eat but ensure the portions are small.

Cut down on starchy and fried foods: In Nigeria, we can completely understand how hard it is to stay away from carbonhydrate and fried foods. However, there are also many equally delicious meals that are not as starchy. You’d be surprised how delicious alternatives to these could be. For foods you consume fried, you could try them boiled, grilled or roasted. The good news for rice lovers is that there are healthier and less fattening options of rice like brown rice and basmati.

No meals after 7pm: As much as possible, try to eat all your meals before 6pm and 7pm at most. This way, you can work it all out before bedtime. Nothing creates those belly pouches faster than late night eating and sugar.

Take more walks and use the stairs: If you do not absolutely have to use a vehicle, by all means walk. Walks are one of the best ways to burn fat because it works on all parts of the body at the same time. Find time in your day to take long walks. Also, ditch the elevator and use the stairs. This may be the only exercise you might be able to do the entire day.

Exercise: This is still the most effective way to lose weight. If you are not exactly the exercise type, make it fun! There are many workout groups that have improvised ways to make exercising fun! You could join a zumba class, a dance class, a cycling group, a swimming class and several other fitness groups. Remember that this does not have to be daily. You could work out three times a week or just Saturdays if you’re extremely busy.
